My husband and I stayed in Wrocław for 1.5 months, from August through mid-September. We had a wonderful time in this charming, vibrant city. We split our meals about 25/75 between eating out and cooking at home. Here are some of the delicious spots we visited and highly recommend.

Meals

1. Pierogarnia Kuchnia Polska

Address: Popowicka 26, 54-237 Wrocław, Poland

This place was absolutely delicious. We ate here on our first night in Poland, when we were hungry, tired, and jet-lagged. We wanted something easy and Polish to eat.

We ordered:

  • Mushroom and cabbage pierogis
  • Po Wenecku
  • Classic ruskie pierogis

Everything was homemade, filling, cheap, and absolutely delicious. To this day, we haven’t found mushroom and cabbage pierogis as good as these ones in all of Poland, and they’re our favorite type to order. These had the perfect tang, almost like vinegar, which gave them such a great flavor profile.

The classic ruskie pierogis? A no-brainer, always good, no notes.

The Po Wenecku was especially interesting. Unlike others I’ve had, this wasn’t just heavily breaded or deep-fried. It was sautéed, topped with sunflower seeds for crunch, leafy greens for freshness, and some delicious bacon. I usually don’t love Wiener Schnitzel (I often find it dry), but in Poland I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Pork is my favorite meat here, and kotlet schabowy has quickly become my go-to meal. It’s similar to Wiener Schnitzel, but made with pork instead of veal, which makes all the difference, juicier and more tender.

We actually went back for our very last meal in Wrocław, which felt sentimental since this was both the first and last restaurant we ate at in the city. We ordered everything again but swapped out the risky mushroom pierogi for pork ones. To our surprise, we liked the pork pierogi even better than the ruskie, but the cabbage and mushroom pierogi still held the crown as the best overall.

Pro: Great neighborhood spot for an easy meal.

Rating: 4.9/5 (I save 5/5 for mind-blowing experiences, but I have zero complaints about this one.)

2. Ze Smakiem

Address: Świętego Mikołaja 32/33, 50-043 Wrocław

We came here for pierogis, and oh my goodness, they did not disappoint. The restaurant is tiny, with only three tables, but we happened to walk in at the perfect time with no wait.

We ordered:

  • Ukrainian borscht soup
  • Duck and cranberry pierogis
  • Cabbage and forest mushroom pierogis

The Ukrainian borscht was absolutely delicious. I even wrote it down so I can try making it when we’re back home! The balance of flavor and complexity was beautiful. Unlike Russian borscht, Ukrainian borscht has more emphasis on potatoes and tomatoes. I think that’s why my husband loved it, he doesn’t usually like beets, but here he couldn’t even taste them. The soup was topped with sour cream and served with bread, the perfect pairing.

The pierogis were also incredible. Somehow they managed to fill each dumpling to the brim without a single one exploding. I was amazed and wanted to ask the chefs how they did it.

  • The cabbage and mushroom pierogis would have been fantastic if we hadn’t already had the unbeatable ones at Pierogarnia Kuchnia Polska. Still very good, though.
  • The duck and cranberry pierogis were made with minced duck, which was unique, I’d never had duck prepared that way, but it made it easier to eat in a dumpling. The cranberry was subtle, almost unnoticeable, so this one was more for duck lovers than cranberry fans.

Pro: Pierogis packed with filling and impressive craftsmanship.

Rating: 4/5 (They were delicious but could’ve used a touch more seasoning, maybe just a bit more salt. Still high on my list for pierogi restaurants in Wrocław.)

3. Bistro Stu Mostów

Address: Świdnicka 4a/i 6, 50-067 Wrocław, Poland

We decided to try Bistro Stu Mostów after tasting two of their beers at the Taste of Wrocław festival.

We ordered:

  • Pastrami sandwich
  • Chicken sandwich
  • Two sides of fries
  • Two flights of beers

The beer overall was just okay. The sours were much better, but none of the IPAs stood out. The chicken burger was solid (4/5), while the pastrami sandwich was mid (2/5), mostly bread, which left Wyatt still hungry. The fries were good, but surprisingly, they didn’t have ketchup or mustard anywhere in the restaurant.

Service was friendly, but prices are definitely higher compared to other spots in Wrocław. I’m glad we tried it, but I wouldn’t go back.

Pro: Sour beers are good if you’re into those

4. Konspira

Address: Plac Solny 11, 50-061 Wrocław, Poland

One of our last nights in Wrocław we ate at Konspira after visiting the Japanese Garden. They’re not close to each other, but we worked up an appetite from walking around. Wyatt picked this spot, it looked fun and unique.

The premise of the restaurant is based on the silent resistance of Soviet-era communism in Poland. The menu even included stories and information about that history. We were too hungry and tired to dive into it, but it gave the place a distinctive atmosphere. The inside was quirky too, with different rooms that connected through wardrobes, it was a little confusing but also fun, like the restaurant itself had secrets to discover.

We ordered:

  • Partyzanckie Dumplings (cheese and mushroom pierogi)
  • Zestaw Wrocławskiego Konspiratora (Wrocław Konspirator’s Set)
  • Zestaw Robotniczy (Workman’s Dinner Set)

The Wrocław Konspirator’s Set came with grilled pork neck in garlic butter, homemade fried potato dumplings, wild mushroom sauce, beetroots, and Swedish salad. The Workman’s Dinner Set was a breaded pork chop with roast potatoes, fried cabbage, and beetroot salad (my go-to meal in Poland).

The mushroom pierogi, though, were a miss. They’re definitely for a true mushroom lover, and I mean true. I enjoy mushrooms, but these tasted extremely earthy and overpowering. We couldn’t even taste the cheese, and the sauce had no flavor. I wouldn’t recommend them.

The mains, however, were absolutely delicious. We ended up getting our favorite Polish dishes here. Wyatt has been loving pork cuts with creamy mushroom sauce and sides, and this one came with plenty of pickles, basically a Polish-sized serving of them, which made us happy since we’re big pickle fans. The pork neck was tender, flavorful, and perfectly paired with everything on the plate.

As for my breaded pork chop, excellent. Juicy, perfectly breaded, and served with seasoned fried cabbage that was outstanding. Since it also came with beets (my favorite), I was in heaven. Any chance I get to have them, I scarf them down.

Pro: Great spot to try classic Polish dishes in a quirky, themed atmosphere.

Bakeries

1. Delulu Bakery

Address: Długa 68C, 53-633 Wrocław, Poland

We stopped here on our first full day in Wrocław, right before grocery shopping.

We ordered:

  • Jagodzianki (traditional Polish sweet buns filled with wild blueberries, often topped with buttery crumble or sugar glaze)

As delicious as it sounds, it was peak blueberry season (August), so this was the perfect choice. The bun was fluffy and flavorful, and the blueberries tasted fresh and bright.

The only downside was how juicy it was, almost too juicy. They could’ve drained a little of the liquid, because if we had torn it open like some people do, blueberry juice would’ve gone everywhere and stained everything.

Pro: Delicious local bakery

2. Chleboteka

Address: Ruska 64/65, 50-079 Wrocław, Poland (The one we specifically went to)

I wanted to try one more bakery in Wrocław, since we focused on bakeries in other cities but not so much here. I found this one online and noticed they had several locations across Wrocław, both in the metro area and on the outskirts. What really pulled me in was the pistachio paczek. If you’ve read my other blog posts, you know I’ve been a pistachio pastry freak ever since I went to Italy 2.5 years ago. It literally changed my world, my bakery circuit has never been the same.

And oh my goodness, if you only go to one bakery in Wrocław, let it be this one. We visited one of their shops that’s purely a bakery, though some of their other locations also serve breakfast and lunch. I specifically wanted the one with the largest pastry selection.

We ordered:

  • Pączek z pistacją (Pistachio Paczek)
  • Śliwianka (Plum bread)
  • Ciasto czekoladowe z orzechami (Chocolate with nuts cookie)
  • Tarta limonkowa z bazylią (Lemon tart with basil)

Everything was absolutely breathtaking and delicious.

The pistachio paczek was everything I hoped for and more. The dough was light and fluffy with a sugar icing all around. But the filling, oh my goodness, the filling! It was straight pistachio butter. Now, I know that’s not for everyone because you could almost choke on how thick and rich it was. And I know what you’re thinking: “Liz, why would I want to try something I could choke on?” My answer: take small bites and pace yourself. The filling was creamy, nutty, and indulgent. Imagine taking a bite of a dessert stuffed with a generous amount of peanut butter, but swap in pistachio butter instead. It was my absolute favorite thing we tried here.

The plum bread was light and fluffy but denser than the paczek, topped with a lovely crumble. It was everything you’d want in a plum bread pastry. If you’re a plum bread lover, this is the one to get.

Wyatt went for the chocolate with nuts cookie and the lemon tart with basil. The cookie was honestly just okay, not bad, but overshadowed by how phenomenal everything else was. It was crunchy and kind of like a brookie (a brownie-cookie hybrid). For me, it didn’t hold up next to a fresh paczek. I’d give it a 3/5, not worth grabbing again, but not bad.

The lemon tart with basil, however, completely blew us away. I would have never thought to pair lemon and basil in a sweet tart, but the combination created a beautiful balance of tartness, acidity, and depth. It was topped with lavender, which added a light floral note when you got a bite with it. This was my second favorite and Wyatt’s top pick. Just perfect.

Pro: Incredible variety of pastries, with creative flavor pairings you won’t find at typical Polish bakeries.

Cafes

I worked remotely from several cafes during our stay, which was a great way to experience the city and get out of the apartment. Each one was laptop-friendly, welcoming, and delicious in its own way.

1. SOHO Kawiarnia

Address: Gen. Władysława Sikorskiego 3k, 53-659 Wrocław

This cafe is on the peaceful river, the perfect spot to sit outside and enjoy the view, or inside with a laptop. They also serve alcohol.

I ordered:

  • Latte
  • Napoleon cake (my first ever)

The Napoleon cake blew me away, so flaky, creamy, and decadent. I texted my family immediately that I wanted the whole cake to myself. Napoleon cake is a traditional French dessert made of flaky puff pastry layers filled with pastry cream. Doesn’t that sound like heaven?

The latte was a solid classic. The music was a little loud for working, but I asked them to turn it down and they kindly did.

Pro: Peaceful riverside location with excellent desserts and kind staff.

2. Latte Love Coffee & Cake

Address: Pomorska 50, 52-219 Wrocław

The worker there was incredibly kind, he asked where I was from, how I liked Poland, and happily explained their specialty lattes.

I ordered:

  • “Latte Love” (latte with house-made strawberry syrup)

This was one of my favorite lattes ever. I’d never had a flavored latte before, and it was such a fun experience. The music was peaceful, the atmosphere calm, and it was a perfect place to work.

Pro: Creative latte flavors with a cozy, welcoming vibe that’s perfect for both relaxing and working.

3. Enklawa Cafe

Address: Bolesława Chrobrego 23, 50-001 Wrocław

Another great work spot with kind staff.

I ordered:

  • Plum cake
  • Mocha

The mocha was surprisingly good, I don’t usually like them, but this one was excellent. The plum cake was light, moist, and creamy. I’ve been devouring every plum thing I can get my hands on in Poland, and this one didn’t disappoint.

Pro: Fantastic seasonal bakes and consistently good coffee, with a friendly atmosphere for working.
